DHAKA: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at advancing governance reforms in Bangladesh. The agreement, signed at the Embassy of Sweden, seeks to bolster efforts in enhancing accountability, promoting gender-responsive governance, and strengthening public confidence in the country's justice and law enforcement systems. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this collaboration is part of UNDP's Integrated Support for Advancing Reforms and Democratic Governance in Bangladesh portfolio. The initiative is designed to provide technical advisory and implementation support for the governance reforms agenda of the Interim Government. UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller highlighted the partnership's focus on rights-based and equitable access to justice, emphasizing the shared commitment to addressing systemic and structural challenges in Bangladesh. Nicolas Weeks, the Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh, underscored the initiative's objective to improve institutional integrity and independence in delivering rule of law and access to justice. He noted that the framework will incorporate consultations with diverse and marginalized groups, including women, youth, and minorities. Both UNDP and Sweden are aligned in their goals to promote accountability, inclusivity, and equity within Bangladesh's governance landscape.
