Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a series of comprehensive security measures to ensure the safe and peaceful celebrations of Victory Day, Christmas Day, and the 31st night in the city. The plan, unveiled by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali during a coordination meeting at the DMP headquarters, seeks the cooperation of citizens for the seamless execution of these events. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP has formulated a meticulous security plan to avert any untoward incidents during these significant days. The plan includes the deployment of both uniformed and plainclothes officers, with additional security at churches through the use of dog squads. The fire service and civil defense units will be on standby, while measures are in place to maintain uninterrupted power supply in church areas. The presence of floating shops and hawkers will be strictly prohibited, and attendees are advised against bringing bags to church services. The DMP has also scheduled increased patr ols by law enforcement agencies across the city on the 31st night and New Year celebrations. Fireworks, crackers, and lanterns are banned, and entry into the Dhaka University area will require an ID card. Traffic management will be enforced in key areas such as Gulshan, Hatirjheel, and Dhaka University to ensure smooth vehicular flow. Further security measures include enhanced intelligence surveillance and cyber patrolling to combat rumors and misinformation, with social media platforms under close watch. High-ranking DMP officials attended the meeting, underscoring the importance of these measures. In a subsequent meeting with the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Segunbagicha, Commissioner Ali reassured that there is no specific security threat concerning the upcoming celebrations.
