Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today, for the first time, showed two former law enforcement officials arrested in separate cases filed over enforced disappearances. The two individuals, former company commander of RAB-2 SP Mohiuddin Farooqui and former additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Barisal Range, Alep Uddin, were present in court during the proceedings. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order and set February 20 as the deadline for submitting a report on the progress in probing the cases. The prosecution had previously requested that Farooqui be shown arrested under ICT BD miscellaneous case 06/2024 and Alep under ICT BD miscellaneous case 07/2024. Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman stated that numerous allegations of detention, torture, and enforced disappearances have been received. After careful examination, two specific allegations were identified against Farooqui and Alep. The victims report edly had their blindfolds slip, allowing them to identify the accused. Mohiuddin Farooqui was arrested in Rangamati, while Alep Uddin was apprehended in Barisal on November 13.
