Agartala: The Bangladesh government has expressed deep resentment over a violent demonstration and attack perpetrated by a large group of Hindu Sangharsh Samity protesters at the premises of the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala earlier today. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of diplomatic missions. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh foreign ministry issued a statement this evening highlighting that the attack violates the inviolability of diplomatic missions as stipulated by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961. The ministry emphasized that it is the host government's responsibility to protect such missions from any form of intrusion or damage. Consequently, Bangladesh has called upon the Indian government to take immediate action to address the incident. Furthermore, the Bangladesh government has urged Delhi to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and to implement measures to prevent any further acts of violence against its diplomatic missions in India. This includes ensuring the safety and security of both diplomatic and non-diplomatic staff and their families. The statement from the foreign ministry detailed accounts that suggest the protesters were allowed to breach the premises in a pre-planned manner by breaking down the main gate. The statement further revealed that the protesters, in the presence of local law enforcement, vandalized the flag pole, desecrated the national flag of Bangladesh, and caused damage to properties within the Assistant High Commission. Regrettably, the local police, who were responsible for safeguarding the premises, were reportedly inactive in containing the situation from the onset. The incident has left all members of the Assistant High Commission with a profound sense of insecurity. The Bangladesh foreign ministry also noted that this attack is part of a concerning pattern, referencing a similar violent demonstration that took place in Kolkata on November 28, 2024 .
