Dhaka: Jatiya Nagorik Committee has announced a series of programmes for the month of December with a six-point demand, including unveiling all treaties with India, ensuring a fair share of water from common rivers, and bringing Sheikh Hasina to justice. The committee, formed to work towards fulfilling the goals of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, also demanded the reduction of commodity prices to a tolerable level, effective steps to retrieve laundered money, and ensuring trials for all land grabbing incidents as well as attacks on communities, including Hindus and Buddhists. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the month-long programme was announced at a press briefing at the Nagorik Committee central office in the capital following a day-long general meeting of its recently expanded 107-member convening committee. Nagorik committee convener Nasir Uddin Patwary, member secretary Akhter Hossain, and spokesperson Samanta Sharmin addressed the press conference, among others. Committees under th e platform will be formed in each district and thana across the country within this month, the leaders stated. An advisory committee will also be established to facilitate communication with the country's respected senior citizens and seek their advice. The month-long programmes of the Nagorik committee include holding a 'Sramik Rally' from December 6 to 9 in various locations, including Basila, Rajendrapur, Joydevpur, Kashimpur, Savar, Ashulia, Baipail, and Uttara. Additionally, they are organizing events nationwide to commemorate International Human Rights Day on December 10. As part of the central program, a protest rally will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar demanding justice for all human rights violations, including disappearances, murders, cross-fires, and rapes committed by the Awami League in the past 15 years. Moreover, they announced plans to hold events on December 14 to mark the Martyred Intellectuals Day at Rayerbazar Cemetery and to organize a Victory Rally in the city on December 16 to c elebrate Victory Day. Citing the white paper on Bangladesh's economy, Nagorik committee leaders urged the government to form a special task force to retrieve the substantial amount of laundered money back to the country.
