CHITTAGONG: A total of 31 people and 10-15 unidentified individuals have been indicted in connection with the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed during a violent clash involving followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and police. The incident occurred on a Tuesday, sparking widespread attention and concern within the community. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jamal Uddin, the father of the deceased lawyer, filed a case with the Kotwali police early on Saturday. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Kazi Tarek Aziz, confirmed that the case had been registered. Those indicted include Chandan, Aman Das, Shuvo Kanti Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Bikash, Ramit, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Vishal Das, Omkar Das, Vishal, Rajkapur, Lala, Samir, Sohel Das, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Devi Charan, Dev, Joy, Durlav Das, and Rajib Bhattacharya, among others. All accused are residents of the Bandel Road Sebok Colony u nder Kotwali thana of the port city. In a related development, Khan Alam, Saiful Islam Alif's elder brother, has filed an additional case. This case accuses 115 identified persons and 400-500 unidentified individuals of attacking and vandalizing court premises. The statement filed by Jamal Uddin alleges that the attackers, some of whom were named in the First Information Report, were armed with weapons such as machetes, tridents, and cleavers. They allegedly carried out a premeditated attack on Saiful while chanting slogans demanding the expulsion of ISKCON leader Chinmoy. Saiful was reportedly attacked on his way home. Jamal Uddin further alleged that individuals affiliated with political organizations, including the Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League, and their associated groups, had either directly or indirectly instigated the murder. Meanwhile, the police have registered three additional cases against 79 identified individuals and 1,400 unidentified persons over the assault, vandalism, and obstru ction of police during the clash. Authorities have arrested 34 individuals, including nine suspects linked to Saiful's murder. The nine suspects were identified through video footage, as per police sources.
