Rangpur: Leaders from various religious and political backgrounds today declared that Bangladesh has emerged as a global exemplar of communal harmony, despite attempts by certain groups to disrupt this peace through rumor-mongering. This consensus was reached during a view exchange meeting organized by the district police and chaired by Superintendent of Police, Rangpur, Mohammad Sharif Uddin. The meeting saw participation from leaders of multiple religious communities and political figures. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the leaders underscored the importance of sustaining communal harmony and urged followers of different faiths to avoid conflict instigated by provocations. The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam, leaders of the Sanaton community such as Uttam Kumar Saha and Babu Ram Jiban Kundu, Khatib of Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque Moulana Mohammad Bayezid Ahmed, and leaders from the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikko Parishad, as well as representatives from politi cal organizations and anti-discrimination student movements. During the discussions, Sanaton community leaders highlighted that Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who was recently arrested, had been expelled from ISKCON long ago, and they were unaware of his presence in Rangpur for a rally. They also emphasized the need for justice in the recent murder of a lawyer in Chattogram, while expressing hope that innocent Hindus would not face persecution. The meeting celebrated the peaceful coexistence of Muslims, Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists in Bangladesh as a global model. However, concerns were raised about attempts by certain groups to undermine this harmony. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin warned of vested interests spreading false information on social media to incite religious discord. He stressed the need for vigilance against provocation-induced conflicts, reiterating that Bangladesh is a nation for all, governed by uniform laws. He assured that the police force is committed to maintain ing communal harmony in Rangpur.
