Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that defeated fascist forces are attempting to create unrest in the country through a coordinated plan. Speaking at a views exchange meeting titled 'Role of Writers and Artistes in Rebuilding the State', organized by Jatiya Kabita Parishad at the Jatiya Press Club, Fakhrul emphasized the need to divert the victory of mass upsurge away from these malicious attempts. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul highlighted the complexities involved in building a democratic Bangladesh, stressing the significant role writers and artists play in reconstructing the state based on national unity. He warned that the state cannot be rebuilt without ensuring freedom of expression and urged writers and artists to stay vigilant against the resurgence of fascism. The BNP Secretary General called for a united effort to resist fascism and appealed to the youth to support the interim government in performing its duties effectively. Several prominent figures, including Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Mujahidul Islam Selim, JPC President Hasan Hafiz, and others, were present and shared their views on the occasion. Mujahidul Islam Selim commended the sacrifices made by the people in the anti-fascist movement over the past 15 years, asserting that no one would be allowed to undermine the achievements of the mass uprising. He urged writers and artists to be more vocal on social issues. Salimullah Khan warned of the potential for a counter-revolution during the state rebuilding process and called on writers, artists, and politicians to remain vigilant. Mahbub Morshed, a writer and journalist, recounted the brutal actions of the ousted fascist forces and called for collective resistance against fascism. Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Zonayed Saki emphasized the role of cultural activists in building a new democratic state, while Saiful Haque praised those who resisted aligning with the fascist regime. Mohan Raihan conc luded by stating that poets would be the first to resist any return of a fascist government.
