Rangpur: The cooperation of media is crucial in addressing past errors of the Highway Police to restore order on the highways and uphold human rights. "Under the changed situation, the main task of the Highway Police is to correct the mistakes of the past and restore order on the highways," Superintendent of Police of the Highway Police for Rangpur zone, Mohammad Tariqul Islam, stated during a press briefing at the Rangpur zonal office. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tariqul Islam emphasized the necessity of raising awareness about the dangers of driving motorcycles on highways, noting that most drivers are young people. "Our teenage boys are dying in most of the accidents in the country while riding motorcycles. When Eid, Puja, and other festivals are celebrated, the rate of these accidents increases as such the death rate also increases," he remarked. Tariqul Islam stressed that reducing the accident rate is possible through increased awareness, but the police cannot achieve this alone. "For th is, the cooperation of the people is needed. That is why we work together with civilians," he explained. He acknowledged the Highway Police's bad reputation and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve it, aiming to protect the highways and restore law and order. "We want to move forward with the dream of the changed times," he added. To ensure safe highways, Tariqul Islam called for the full cooperation of journalists to correct previous mistakes and steer the Highway Police in the right direction.
