Dhaka: A Gas Chromatography Laboratory was inaugurated at Dhaka University's Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) to conduct research activities on improving air quality and preventing environmental pollution. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan today inaugurated the lab as the chief guest at an occasion, said a university press release. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, under the joint collaborative research project, Japan's AJI-CLE Company Limited and Ryobi Systems Company Limited gifted a 'Gas Chromatograph', with its ability to separate complex mixtures, which can detect trace levels of pollutants and is an essential tool for environmental monitoring. The inaugural ceremony was chaired by CARS Director Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid and attended by several distinguished guests including DU Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Biology faculty dean Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain Khan, Sciences faculty dean Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Ear th and Environmental Sciences faculty dean Professor Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, Engineering and Technology faculty dean Professor Dr. Upama Kabir, AJI-CLE Managing Director Taichi Watanabe, and representative of Ryobi Systems Company Limited Imranul Haque Chowdhury. Professor Dr. Niaz highlighted that Dhaka is among the world's top five cities with the most poisonous air and emphasized the need for innovative ideas and projects to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and prevent environmental pollution. He expressed hope that the collaboration between CARS and the Japanese institutions will play a significant role in preventing environmental pollution and preserving the environment both nationally and globally. The Vice Chancellor thanked the Japanese institutions for their cooperation in installing the gas chromatograph machine at Dhaka University.
