Khulna: Speakers at a memorial meeting today stressed the importance of preserving the memories of the martyrs of the Anti-Discrimination Movement, noting that their supreme sacrifice will inspire future generations to continue the struggle for justice. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the martyrs of the July-August uprising sacrificed their lives to build a discrimination-free society. Speakers at the event emphasized that their sacrifice should not be in vain and expressed hope that, even a hundred years from now, society will remember these revolutionaries as a source of inspiration for social change. The remarks were made during a meeting held at the Shilpokola Academy Auditorium in Khulna, organized by the Khulna District Administration. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif served as the chief guest at the event. The meeting began with a moment of silence to honor the memory of the martyrs from the July-August uprising. Speakers highlighted that the Anti-Discrimination Moveme nt in July and August provided the people of the country with a new vision for Bangladesh, achieved through the sacrifice of students and civilians. They expressed their belief that the departed souls of the uprising heroes would find peace once their dreams are fulfilled. The event was attended by notable figures including Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Zulfiqar Ali Haider, Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Superintendent of Police T M Mossarraf Hossain, Civil Surgeon Sheikh Shafiqul Islam, and Nurnahar, the mother of martyr Sakib Raihan. Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Islam presided over the meeting. Contributions to the discussion were also made by freedom fighter Md Moniruzzaman, General Secretary of Khulna Zila Imam Parishad Moulana Golam Kibria, senior journalists Sheikh Didarul Alam and Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, injured student Jibon Howlader, and students Al Shahriar from Khulna University, and Shahriar Saad and Lamia Akter from Government B L College. The gathering concluded with a doa mahfil, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of the martyrs and the quick recovery of all injured students and individuals affected by the July-August uprising.
