Dhaka: Central leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mahbub Alam was taken on a three-day police remand for his alleged involvement in the attack on students of Dhaka University during the anti-discrimination student movement in July and August. Inspector Md Monirul Islam of the Detective Branch (DB), who is also the investigation officer of the case, presented Mahbub before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, requesting a seven-day remand. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the lawyer representing the accused filed a bail petition and opposed the remand request. Despite the opposition, Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman granted a three-day police remand to facilitate the interrogation of Mahbub. Mahbub Alam was arrested by police on Monday morning from the Shyamoli area of the city.
