Dhaka: Acting Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Ekaterina Semenova met with Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today at his secretariat office to discuss topics including fertilizer, agricultural production, and export. Highlighting the longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and Russia, the Russian envoy praised Bangladesh's progress in the agricultural sector. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ekaterina Semenova expressed Russia's interest in intensifying cooperation in Bangladesh's agriculture sector, particularly in the export of fertilizers. She offered to export various fertilizers produced in Russia, with a focus on Diammonium phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of potash (Potash) fertilizers. Semenova proposed an initial export of up to 400,000 metric tons of DAP and 30,000 metric tons of Potash to Bangladesh. The Agriculture Adviser welcomed this proposal, indicating Bangladesh's eagerness to import fertilizers through a government-to-government (G2G) system from count ries that supply high-quality fertilizers at affordable prices in a short time frame. During the meeting, the Agriculture Adviser also suggested that Bangladesh is interested in exporting various seasonal fruits, particularly jackfruit, to Russia. Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was also present at the discussion.
