Dhaka: A court here today sent former Barguna-1 lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu to jail in connection with the murder of trader Abdul Wadud. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman issued the order, denying a bail request filed on behalf of Shambhu.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court’s decision followed the presentation of Shambhu by police after the conclusion of his six-day remand. The police requested the court to keep Shambhu in custody until the investigation is completed. Previously, on November 12, the same court had granted a six-day remand for Shambhu.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested Shambhu in the capital’s Uttara area on November 11. The murder of Abdul Wadud occurred on July 19 in the city’s New Market area, during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Wadud’s relative, Abdur Rahman, filed the case on August 21, naming 130 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Salman F
Rahman, and Amir Hossain Amu.
