‘Mugdho Water Corner’ Inaugurated at Khulna University.

Khulna: Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University (KU), Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim, inaugurated the ‘Mugdha Water Corner’ by cutting a ribbon on the first floor of the Poet Jibananda Dash Building on the campus on Sunday. The initiative commemorates Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, a former student from the Mathematics 19th batch of KU.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Discipline of English at KU took the initiative to establish the corner in memory of Mugdho, who became a martyr on July 18 during the quota reform movement in Azampur, Uttara, Dhaka. During this movement, police opened fire on the students, and one of the bullets tragically hit Mugdho’s forehead, proceeding through his right ear. He was declared dead after being taken to Crescent Hospital.

Shortly before the incident, Mugdho was selflessly distributing water and biscuits to fellow protesting students, uttering the words, “Water, water, anybody needs water, brother?” His compassionate act was one of his last before the tragedy struc

Mugdho had moved to Dhaka in March after completing his graduation in Mathematics from Khulna University. He had been admitted to the MBA program at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and aspired to pursue higher studies in the Netherlands.

The event was addressed by the Head of the English Discipline and Dean of the Arts and Humanities School, Professor Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir, among others. Following the inauguration, a doa mahfil was held for the eternal peace of Mugdho and all other martyrs who lost their lives during anti-discrimination student movements.
