Dhaka: The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a cautionary alert regarding fraudulent activities related to Hajj refunds, as several groups of fraudsters have been active in the country. "The Ministry of Religious Affairs has requested all to be careful against such fraudulent circles," stated a ministry press release today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a group of fraudsters, posing as ministry officials, have been contacting Hajjis, owners or representatives of Hajj agencies, and Hajj guides, asking for sensitive information such as debit or credit card details, as well as bKash or Nagad wallet information. While only a few incidents of fraud have been reported, the ministry urges caution. The ministry highlighted that refund money from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to Hajjis, Hajj agencies, and Hajj guides is sent directly to banks via BEFTN or through cheques. Therefore, there is no need to provide any debit or credit card information, or details of bKash and Nagad wallets for the refund process. The ministry has urged everyone not to disclose such information if contacted by fraudsters. Additionally, it has advised victims to file written complaints with law enforcement agencies regarding such fraudulent calls. Previously, the ministry requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to take legal action against these fraudulent activities.
