Government Extends Army’s Magistracy Power by Additional 60 Days.

DHAKA: The government has announced an extension of magistracy powers granted to commissioned army officers for an additional two months, totaling a 60-day extension. This decision was communicated through a circular issued by the public administration ministry on Friday. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the circular specifies that officers on deputation with the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh are also authorized to exercise these magistracy powers. The jurisdiction for these powers extends across the entire country, and the 60-day period will commence from the date of the circular's issuance. Initially, on September 17, the government had conferred these powers to commissioned army officers for a 60-day period with the aim of enhancing law and order. The recent extension indicates a continued effort to maintain stability and security within the nation.
