Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today stated that numerous leaders and activists of his party have made significant sacrifices to establish democracy and ensure the voting rights of the country's citizens. "People want to see their government and parliament by exercising their voting rights. If it is needed, BNP leaders and activists are ready to make sacrifices again to this end as there is no scope to deviate their concentration from this goal," he added. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khasru was speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by Jubo Dal at the city's Biplob Udyan on Saturday afternoon, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The event commemorated Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who declared the country's independence from Kalurghat Betar Kendra. The senior BNP leader emphasized that no one can seize the country's democracy nor can anyone dictate the future of its politics, asserting that only the citizens have the right to m ake such decisions. Amir Khasru further remarked on past attempts to undermine the people's decision, citing historical figures such as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ershad, and Sheikh Hasina, questioning their success in doing so. He urged for a departure from these approaches and advocated for allowing the people to make the right decision. He highlighted that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman formed BNP with the principles of Bangladeshi nationalism, economic freedom, and a sovereign state, encouraging people to stand with dignity. He concluded by stating, "That's why BNP as a nationalistic political party exists till today thwarting all sorts of conspiracy hatched against it in the past." The rally also featured speeches from Central Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna, General Secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan, and other central and local leaders.
