Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Mainul Islam stated today that the development of the police should focus on becoming a force for the people, drawing inspiration from the spirit of the July Revolution. Speaking as the chief guest at the monthly review meeting of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, he emphasized the need for the police to learn from the past to better serve the public. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police chief commenced the meeting with a prayer for the peace of the departed souls of martyrs from the student-people uprising, offering condolences to their families. He highlighted the vital role of police as a state institution and underscored that their main objective is to provide services to the people. He stressed that the police should work collaboratively to tackle crimes effectively. IGP Md. Mainul Islam also highlighted the importance of identifying crime hotspots and working with citizen committees to pre vent crimes. He stated that no crime should be concealed and that criminals, regardless of their identity, should face justice. He also cautioned against the harassment of innocent individuals and advocated for intelligence-based policing to gather information on potential crimes and prevent them. He emphasized the importance of police stations as centers of service, advocating for respectful treatment of individuals seeking assistance. He acknowledged improvements in Dhaka's traffic system and urged further enhancements. The IGP also noted the significance of training to boost professional skills, ensuring regular modern training for police members. Presiding over the meeting, DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan reaffirmed the DMP's commitment to serving Dhaka's population of 25 million. He acknowledged the improvements in law and order and highlighted the need for ongoing professionalism to address challenges. He stressed the importance of preventing crimes such as theft, robbery, and extortion through incr eased patrols and community engagement. Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain provided an overview of October's crime situation, including various offenses and recoveries. The meeting concluded with the IGP awarding officers for their exemplary work in October. The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including Additional Police Commissioners and Joint Police Commissioners, who were present to discuss the challenges and achievements within the DMP.
