Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today issued an order compelling relevant authorities to implement effective measures to curb the spread of dengue across the country. A division bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf delivered the order following a hearing on a writ petition related to the matter. The authorities have been instructed to enforce the order and submit a compliance report within 30 days. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also mandated the formation of a high-powered committee tasked with developing long-term strategies to combat dengue nationwide. Additionally, the court issued a rule demanding an explanation from the concerned authorities as to why their failure to control the dengue outbreak should not be declared illegal. "Already more than 350 people have died of dengue, and the total number of dengue cases has exceeded 72,000 this year. These are official statistics; the unofficial numbers are far higher. We brought this to the court's attention," stat ed Barrister Mahin M Rahman, the petitioner, addressing the media. He further noted that the court emphasized the need for increased government attention to effectively manage the dengue crisis.
