Noakhali: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today claimed that the removal of Sheikh Hasina was made possible by a nationwide uprising of students and citizens. Addressing a public rally at the Chowmuhani Railgate premises in the district, Ahmed criticized Hasina’s governance, stating that she treated Bangladesh as her personal domain and its people as subservient.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rally was inaugurated by BNP Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu and organized by the party’s Begumganj Upazila, Chowmuhani Municipality, and local units of BNP’s associate bodies to mark ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on November 7. Rizvi Ahmed alleged that Hasina’s regime was marked by enforced disappearances and killings, which instilled fear and suffering among the populace.
Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of embezzling large sums from mega projects like power plants and metro-rail, as well as from the stock market, leading to widespread pu
blic hardship. He urged the interim government to dismantle market syndicates to alleviate soaring commodity prices and called for national elections to be held promptly.
He further stated that allies of the former autocrat continue to occupy significant positions in the country. The rally also featured speeches from BNP’s Assistant Organizing Secretary (Chattogram Division) Barrister Mir Helal, Noakhali District BNP President Golam Haider, and other BNP leaders.
The event, presided over by Begumganj Upzila BNP President Kamakhya Chandra Das and conducted by its General Secretary Mahfuzul Haque Abed and Chowmuhani Municipality BNP General Secretary Mohsin Alam, concluded with financial assistance being provided to families of martyrs and individuals injured during the mass uprising.
