Chattogram: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Assistant Organizing Secretary Barrister Mir Helal Uddin today emphasized the crucial role played by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's family during periods of crisis in Bangladesh. He made these remarks while addressing a rally organized by BNP's Hathazari Upazila and municipality units in celebration of the National Revolution and Solidarity Day in Hathazari, Chattogram. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rally was preceded by a colorful procession through Hathazari municipality. Barrister Helal Uddin highlighted the historical contributions of Ziaur Rahman, noting his pivotal role during the transitional period after March 26, 1971, when Major Ziaur Rahman encouraged widespread participation in the Liberation War by declaring independence. Similarly, Helal Uddin recounted how Ziaur Rahman assumed power through the revolution and solidarity of soldiers and civilians on November 7, 1975, and maintained national unity against authoritarian forces. The BNP leader also credited former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia with toppling Dictator HM Ershad and instituting parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh. He pointed out that the BNP, under the current leadership of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, continues to navigate the nation through transitional periods, maintaining a healthy political trend. The rally was presided over by BNP's Chattogram North District unit member and Hathazari Municipality unit convener Zaker Hossain. The event was jointly moderated by Md. Giasuddin, Hathazari Upazila BNP member secretary, and Md Ahidul Alam, Member Secretary of Hathazari Municipality Unit.
