Dhaka: Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain today urged the officials of the ministry to give utmost priority to public interests during their duties: He said this while exchanging views with the officials after taking the charge of the ministry at its conference room, a press release of the ministry said. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, outgoing adviser A Hassan Ariff congratulated Asif Mahmud, saying, "It's not routine government, it's a revolutionary government. Our main task is to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh." He emphasized that the mass movement of 2024 was not only limited to Dhaka city and likened it to the movement of 1971, stating that it jolted the entire country. Ariff praised the sincerity and efficiency of every ministry employee in carrying out their duties. Asif Mahmud highlighted the importance of maintaining continuity in ministry work, noting that working with efficiency is a significant challenge in the present ti me. He stressed that the experience of senior officials should be utilized during the transition of duties in public welfare, which would serve as an example for the future. The adviser pointed out the extensive involvement of the ministry with the common people, stating that people are the biggest source of power for executing public welfare activities. "We want to set an example of our service for public welfare," Asif stated. Yesterday, the interim government reshuffled the portfolio of Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, assigning him the responsibility of the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Previously, he was in charge of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The charge-taking ceremony was chaired by Additional Secretary of the LGRD ministry Md Nazrul Islam, and attended by senior officials of the ministry and heads of various departments.
