T-Aman Harvesting Underway in Jamalpur as Farmers Overcome Rainfall Challenges.

Jamalpur: Farmers in Jamalpur have commenced the harvesting of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) for the current season. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) reported that farmers have harvested T-Aman on 17,028 hectares, which represents 15 percent of the total crops, as of November 10.

Farmers in the district have cultivated T-Aman on 114,060 hectares with a production target of 353,108 tonnes of rice. However, recent rainfall has caused damage to crops on 3,574 hectares. The DAE further noted that farmers planted high-yielding varieties (HYV) on 74,365 hectares, hybrid varieties on 35,580 hectares, and local varieties on 3,574 hectares.

Farmer Mahbubur Rashid Mohabbad from Vengura village in Islampur Upazila shared that he achieved a good yield of BINA-7 variety paddy from his five bighas of land. He mentioned that the current market price for per mound (40 kilograms) of paddy is Tk 1050, while dried paddy is fetching Tk 1250. After harvesting the paddy, he pl
ans to cultivate mustard and maize on his land.

Deputy Director Zakia Sultana highlighted that farmers have begun harvesting early varieties of paddy, and incentives for T-Aman cultivation were distributed to farmers in the district to boost food production.
