Singapore Envoy Discusses Economic Cooperation with BNP Secretary General.

Dhaka: Singapore’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, Derek Loh, today paid a courtesy call on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital. Mitchel Lee, Charge d’Affaires at the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, and Rahul Abraham, Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore, were also present at the meeting, according to a press release. The meeting was attended by BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Enamul Haque Chowdhury, and International Relations Affairs Committee Member Shama Obaid.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury informed reporters that the discussions covered various issues of mutual interest between the two countries. He highlighted that the Singapore delegation believes decision-making on economic activities, including investment, becomes more straightforward when there is an elected government in Bangladesh. The delegati
on expressed that advancing economic activities is challenging without such a government.

The meeting also explored ways for Bangladesh to send skilled manpower to Singapore, which has a demand for nurses. Amir Khasru noted that Singapore is interested in hiring skilled professionals in various fields and is willing to invest through institutions to provide technical assistance for developing skilled manpower in Bangladesh. Singapore’s efficiency in port management was acknowledged, and they expressed interest in cooperating with Bangladesh to improve its port management.

Additionally, Singapore aims to extend cooperation to Bangladesh in the health, education, shipbuilding, energy, and financial sectors.
