Dhaka: A case has been filed today against 19 individuals, including the former chairman of Grameen Bank, Dr. AKM Saiful Majid. They are accused of storming and vandalizing the offices of Grameen Kalyan, Grameen Telecom, and other organizations founded by Nobel laureate and current Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the managing director of Grameen Kalyan, AKM Moinuddin Chowdhury, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Pratim. Following the recording of the complainant’s statement, the court directed the officer-in-charge of the Shah Ali Police Station to file a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint.
The list of accused includes Barrister Masud Akhter, Jim Zobayed, Lt Col (retd) Md Jahangir Hasan, Col (retd) Rashed Ali, Sergeant (retd) Ziaur Rahman, Nuruzzaman Mridha, Raju Miah, S Abdur Rashid, Mizanur Rahman, Tanin Khan, Pradip Kumar Saha, Foyjul Haque, Mamunur Rashid, Golam Zakaria, Harun
Ur Rashid, Tarikul Islam, Gobinda Saha, and Krishna Kanto Roy.
According to the case documents, on February 2, 2024, the accused allegedly entered the premises of the Grameen Telecom building illegally. They are reported to have vandalized valuable documents and furniture within the Grameen Kalyan and Grameen Telecom offices and attempted to unlawfully seize control of these companies.
