Satkhira: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized six gold bars weighing around 1103.15 grams from the Kakdanga border in Kalaroa upazila of the district today. The BGB members also arrested rickshaw-van puller Rashedul Islam, 24, son of Md. Anis Zaman of Keragachi village in Kalaroa upazila, in connection with the incident. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BGB Satkhira 33 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashraful Haque stated in a press release that they had received secret information about a gold consignment intended to be smuggled from Bangladesh to India through the Kakdanga border. Based on this intelligence, an operational team of the BGB, led by Naib Subedar Md. Hormuz of Kakdanga BOP, conducted a raid in the area. During the operation, Rashedul was arrested from the Goalchattar Bazar area around 8 am while he was moving suspiciously. Upon searching his body, the BGB team recovered six gold bars and a mobile phone. The weight of the recovered gold is approximately 1103.15 grams, with a market value estimated at about Taka 1 crore 36 lakh 86 thousand and 186, as stated by Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashraful Haque. The commander further mentioned that the process of filing a case against the arrested individual with the Kalaroa Police Station is currently underway. Additionally, the procedure for depositing the gold bars at the Satkhira Treasury Office is also in progress.
