Ten Streets in Dhaka to Become Horn-Free Zones in January, Says Rizwana.

Dhaka: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser, announced that ten streets in Dhaka will be declared horn-free zones in January. She made this statement during her address at the Grand Finale of the “Shahid Selim BUFT National Debate Competition – 2024” held at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology in Uttara.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana emphasized the necessity of amending laws to support the initiative of a horn-free country. She urged drivers to exercise responsibility and minimize horn usage to contribute to a quieter environment. Highlighting the influential role of the youth, Rizwana encouraged them to actively participate in enhancing public awareness on environmental and climate change issues. She stated that today’s youth are pivotal in shaping the future of Bangladesh.

Furthermore, Rizwana advocated for the development of an eco-friendly nation through the application of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity. She emphasized
that engagement in debates can enhance communication skills, analytical abilities, and perspectives on problem-solving.

The event also featured speeches from notable figures including Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees; Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, trustee member; and Professor Dr. Engineer Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BGMEA University. This year’s debate competition saw participation from 32 university and 32 college teams. The Dhaka University Debating Society won the university category championship, with Jahangirnagar University and North South University as runners-up. In the college category, Adamjee Cantonment College emerged as the champion, followed by Bangladesh Navy College and Mirpur Cantonment College.
