Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak assured that the government will make arrangement for resettlement for those displaced by the recent rain-induced disasters.
Inspecting the flood-affected area at Gotikhel of Mahankal rural municipality in Lalitpur today, Minister Lekhak emphasized government’s commitment to lessen the plight of the disaster survivors by addressing their concerns.
He, however, urged not to have any prejudices and called for unity among all the stakeholders and political parties to accelerate recovery efforts. “All three-tier government, political parties, non-governmental organizations should collaborate for disaster response effort regardless of any political biasness.”
Assuring that the government would make arrangements for reconstruction and rehabilitation process, the Minister reaffirmed commitment of the government to provide patronage to the citizens severely affected by the recent rain-triggers landslides, flood and inundation.
“There is no need to worry about where to go a
nd what to do. The government is the guardian to all citizens. With the same sentiments, the government will take forward reconstruction and rehabilitation process,” he pledged.
The Minister also instructed the disaster-hit local levels authorities to immediately provide beneficiaries’ details.
He vowed, “Within three days of receiving the details, we will send Rs 15,000 to 20,000 for immediate relief and Rs 25,000 as a first installment to each disaster-hit household to rebuild their houses.”
Minister Lekhak further shared that those families adversely impacted by disasters would be provided Rs 200,000 each as compensation.
Similarly, Minister for Defence Manbir Rai expressed his confidence that collective efforts would help deal with the disasters effectively and promptly.
Accompanying Minister Lekhak in the inspection were federal parliamentarian from Lalitpur constituency no 1 Udaya Shumsher Rana, District Coordination Committee Lalitpur’s Chief Rishidev Phuyal, Mahankal rural municipality chair Gane
sh Bahadur KC and its Vice-Chairperson Dolma Maya Gole among others.
They briefed the visiting Minister about the disaster-hit areas, details of damages, reconstruction and rehabilitation process being undertaken in the affected areas among others.
It may be noted that over 246 people lost their lives so far in natural disasters like landslides, flood and inundation following torrential rain on September 27, 28 and 29 across the country.
Altogether 178 people sustained injuries while 18 people went missing, as per the government’s updated statistics.
In response to this, the government recently declared 41 local levels as disaster-hit zone. The declaration is expected to facilitate effective relief distribution, reconstruction and rehabilitation process in those areas.
