Preparedness for natural disasters is systematic: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that works related preparedness, response and rehabilitation in relation to natural disaster are getting organized compared to the past.

Responding to the queries raised during the discussion on resolution of urgent public importance in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he said that about 1.8 million and 4.12 hundred thousand households may be affected in one way or another by the monsoon-induced disaster this year. Similarly, 83 thousand households may be directly affected and 18 thousand may have to be provided with relief and rescue support.

The Minister said, “We have the Monsoon Pre-Preparedness and Response National Action Plan 2081 BS regarding the mitigation of monsoon incidents. We are working according to the action plan. Equipment and tools are ready for disaster response.’

Earlier in the House, Lawmaker Dr Toshima Karki had registered a resolution of urgent public importance on the topic of “Discussion on disaster management review,
comprehensive master plan creation and health crisis preparedness”.

MP Karki said, “I have submitted this important proposal as it is very necessary to make a comprehensive master plan related to disaster prevention, disaster risk reduction as well as post-disaster rehabilitation and management, predict the risk of damage and inform the public as well as timely restoration and replacement work.”

The proposal was supported by MPs Santosh Pariyar, Birajbhakta Shrestha, Asim Sah, Ganesh Parajuli, Bindawasini Kansakar and Nisha Dangi. Thakur Prasad Gaire, Durga Rai, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, Prem Suwal, Ram Prakash Chaudhary, Shiva Nepali, Gyanu Basnet Subedi, Laxmi Tiwari, Binita Kathayat, Sitakumari Rana, Rajendra Kumar KC, Bijula Rayamajhi, Ramkrishna Yadav, Damodar Paudel Bairagi, Pratiksha Tiwari, Nagina Yadav, Manish Jha, Dayal Bahadur Shahi, Sita Mijar, Prem Bahadur Maharjan, Javeda Khatun Jaga, Shanti BK, Sushila Thing among others.
