Call for implementing provisions related to provincial police

The ministers for Home and Internal Affairs of all seven provinces have drawn the attention of the federal government to implementing the provisions relating to the provincial police.

Ministers for Home and Internal Affairs of all seven provinces on Tuesday together met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and urged him to soon conclude the matter relating to the adjustment of the provincial police.

Even eight years into the passage of the constitution, peace and security, good governance, development and prosperity of provinces are being affected as the authority of the provincial government including of the police affairs has not been delegated to the province and hence attention of the federal government has been drawn to the matter, said Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province Ganga Narayan Shrestha.

During the meeting, DPM Shrestha said the government was effortful to make and amend acts and prepare the procedure to empower the provinces and
strengthen federalism as per the constitution and the police adjustment process would be completed with priority. “The incumbent government will conclude the police adjustment.”

Present in the meeting were minister Shrestha, Minister for Home Affairs, Communication and Law of Madhes Province Mohammad Samim, Minister for Home Affairs, Communications and Law of Lumbini Province Santosh Kumar Pandey, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Karnali Province Krishna Bahadur CG and Minister for Internal Affairs of Sudurpaschim Province Shiva Raj Bhatta.

Similarly, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Water Supply of the Gandaki province Saraswati Aryal Tiwari and minister of Koshi Province without portfolio Shumsher Rai were also present.
