Dhaka: Police have arrested 99 people in separate anti-crime drives in different parts of the capital, including 95 by police from Tejgaon division areas and four by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit from Jatrabari.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Tejgaon division conducted special operations in crime-prone areas under its jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of 95 individuals on Saturday. The operations saw 19 people arrested by Tejgaon Police Station, five by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, 23 by Mohammadpur Police Station, 32 by Adabor Police Station, four by Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, and 12 by Hatirjheel Police Station.
In a separate operation, the CTTC unit apprehended four alleged members of a mugging gang in the Shanir Akhra area under Jatrabari Police Station at around 10:30 am on Saturday. The individuals arrested in this operation have been identified as Md Roni, 29, Md Hridoy Gazi, 26, Rahim Hasan alias Yahia, 25, and Mohammad Faisal, 26.
CTTC sources stated that the arrests were executed by a team from the City-Intelligence Analysis Division during their drive in Shanir Akhra. The police have reported that the four individuals have cases filed against them across various police stations in the capital and elsewhere in the country, with allegations including robbery, banditry, and theft.
Legal action has been initiated against the arrested individuals.
