9 Brokers Sentenced to Jail for Harassing Patients in Habiganj

Habiganj: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today conducted an operation at Habiganj Sadar Hospital to protect patients and their relatives from fraud and harassment. During the drive, a mobile court led by executive magistrate Mohsin Mia sentenced nine individuals to 15 days' imprisonment for their involvement in illegal brokerage activities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convicts have been identified as Ramij Ali Roni, 27, Md. Kamal Shah, 25, Asaduzzaman Ripon, 43, Kawsar, 30, Bilu Miah, 42, Asti Das, 40, Khalek Mia, 27, Nitu Ghosh, 35, and Sourav Rai, 21. These individuals are residents of different upazilas of the district.

The operation unfolded when a team from RAB-9 conducted a drive at the hospital at noon, resulting in the arrest of the nine individuals. After preliminary interrogation, they were found guilty, and the mobile court sentenced them to 15 days in jail.

The Company Commander of the Shaistaganj Camp, Additional Superintendent of Police Shah Alam, confirmed the matter, highlighting the illegal activities of the brokers. The arrested individuals are accused of extracting money from the relatives of patients and harassing the patients under the guise of facilitating new admissions in various hospitals.
