Dhaka: Under a joint initiative of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangla Academy, a Baishakhi Fair has begun on Bangla Academy premises in the city. Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki today inaugurated the fair, which will continue till April 20.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, speaking at the opening ceremony, the industries adviser highlighted the nationwide festive mood as the country celebrates the Bengali New Year, ‘Pahela Baishakh’. He remarked that people all over Bangladesh are partaking in the celebrations, emphasizing the widespread participation in the ‘Barshabaran Ananda Shobhajatra’ events across the nation.
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki noted that the interim government has fostered an inclusive environment, enabling both plains and hill residents to partake in the New Year festivities. He expressed optimism, stating that with collective cooperation, the vision of a new Bangladesh is beginning to take shape.
The fair features a total of 98 stalls. Among them, five stalls are dedicated to Jamdani sarees, two to Nakshi Kantha, eight to jute products, seven to jewelry items, four to leather goods, two to bamboo products, one to pottery, 31 to textile products, and 20 to food items.
