6,624 Distressed Women Receive Monthly Rice Allocation in Chuadanga

Chuadanga: The government has initiated a programme to distribute 30 kg of free rice each month to 6,624 distressed women in 40 unions of Chuadanga district. This initiative is part of the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) Card programme.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chuadanga District Women Affairs Office, operating under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, has commenced this rice distribution programme. The total monthly allocation of rice for the district’s four upazilas is 198.72 tonnes.



Under the VWB programme, cards have been distributed to 6,624 women across the district’s four upazilas. Specifically, 1,357 women in Sadar upazila, 1,500 in Alamdanga upazila, 2,511 in Damurhuda upazila, and 1,256 in Jibonnagar upazila are beneficiaries of the initiative.



The programme, which began in July this year, is set to continue until June 2027. Over the course of this 24-month-long programme, extremely poor mothers, widows, women with disabilities, abandoned wives, and school-going poor girls will receive 30 kg of rice free of charge, as stated by Chuadanga District Women Affairs Officer (In-Charge) Maksura Jannat.
