Thakurgaon: As part of the government's initiative to enhance environmental sustainability, a total of 5,550 trees are set to be planted along a five-kilometer stretch of road in Thakurgaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tree plantation program, titled "Planned Afforestation, Build a Green Bangladesh," is a three-day initiative that began in Thakurgaon on July 2. The program involves planting saplings of forest, fruit, and medicinal trees along a road stretching from Akcha Union Parishad in Thakurgaon Sadar to Cheradangi Bazar.
The saplings to be planted include a diverse range of species: 4,000 Mahogany trees, 300 Mango trees, 200 Jam trees, 100 Olive trees, 100 Guava trees, 60 Amlaki (Indian gooseberry) trees, 50 Lemon trees, 50 Kamranga (star fruit) trees, 50 Amara trees, 50 Chalta trees, 40 Sonalu trees, and 10 Krishnachura (flamboyant) trees.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Thakurgaon is spearheading this campaign, aiming to promote biodiversity, improve air quality, and foster ecological balance in the district. Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana inaugurated the ceremony as the chief guest, with Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Khairul Islam presiding over the event.
