Rangpur: A five-day Divisional SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) Product Fair-2025 was inaugurated at the Public Library ground in Rangpur on Sunday afternoon. The event is a collaborative effort by the Rangpur district administration and the Rangpur District Office of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration was marked by a colorful ceremony where Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam released balloons as the chief guest. The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as Deputy Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Saleh Md. Ashraful Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Md. Joynal Abedin, and Assistant General Manager of Rangpur BSCIC District Office Nazma Khatun, who addressed the attendees as special guests. The inaugural function was presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Mohammad Rabiul Faisal.
The chief guest highlighted the significance of the SME product fair in promoting, expanding, selling, and marketing products created by small and medium enterprise entrepreneurs. He emphasized the fair’s role in establishing connections between entrepreneurs and consumers. The event underscores the substantial contribution of cottage, small, and medium industries to the domestic economy, engaging millions and sustaining the national economy.
Md. Shahidul Islam elaborated on how these industries thrive on low capital, local raw materials, personal skills, creativity, and family labor, particularly by women, contributing to an equitable economic and social development landscape in the country. He extended his congratulations to the participating entrepreneurs from various parts of the Rangpur division and wished the event success.
The event was attended by government officials, journalists, entrepreneurs, and visitors. BSCIC officials informed BSS that 60 stalls featuring entrepreneurs from sectors such as agriculture, food, ICT, leather, jute, and handicrafts have been set up for the fair, which runs from February 23 to 27. The fair is open to visitors daily from 10 am to 8 pm and includes cultural programs every evening.
