Dhaka: The government has initiated the distribution of health cards to those injured in the July mass uprising, enabling them to access free treatment at public hospitals nationwide. This initiative initially targets 4,551 individuals, referred to as July warriors, across 36 districts in the country, with plans to extend the program to other districts in phases.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the health service division has commenced the urgent distribution process by coordinating with civil surgeons in various districts. The civil surgeons are required to provide details such as the name, designation, mobile number, and signature of their representatives to facilitate the collection and distribution of the health cards to the respective warriors.

The distribution covers notable numbers in specific districts, including 377 recipients in Dhaka, 430 in Narshingdi, and 432 in Kushtia, among others. The health services division highlighted that these cards serve as official recognition of the bravery and sacrifice of the July warriors, granting them either free access or significant discounts on necessary medical treatments.

The health card initiative was formally launched by Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, at the state guest house Jamuna. During the event, health cards were personally handed over to two individuals: Ifat Hossain, a student from Narshingdi United College, and Israt Jahan Imu from Dhaka University’s disaster management department, symbolizing the state’s commitment to supporting those who suffered during the uprising.
