382 Students Collect Nomination Forms for 23 RUCSU Posts

Rajshahi: A total of 382 students have collected nomination forms for 23 posts in the upcoming election to Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU) till the last date for lifting the forms on Wednesday last. Besides, 84 students collected forms for five posts for student representatives to the Senate, while 754 others for different posts in 17 hall councils.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Commissioner to the election F Nazrul Islam informed that 14 nomination forms were collected for the Vice President (VP) post, while eight for General Secretary (GS) and ten for Assistant General Secretary (AGS). Meanwhile, the newly-admitted students in the 2024-25 academic year were included in the voter list for the upcoming election to RUCSU, Hall Council, and student representatives to the Senate. This inclusion followed demands and suggestions from students to make the election more inclusive.

Additionally, 847 aspirant candidate students have submitted samples for a dope test at the RU Medical Centre, as part of the election preparation process. The revised election schedule outlines that distribution of nomination papers will be held until September 3, with submission from September 4 to 7, and scrutiny on September 8 and 9. The preliminary list of candidates will be released on September 10, with objections to be received and disposed of on September 11. Candidates may withdraw their nominations on September 13, and the final list will be published on September 14. The polling is scheduled for September 15, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the academic buildings.

This election marks a significant event as Rajshahi University students are regaining their representative rights after a 35-year hiatus. Preparations for the election are currently underway with full momentum.
