Rajshahi:<Text>
The National Security Intelligence (NSI) has seized three tonnes of urea fertiliser here while the agri-input was being illegally smuggled from Charghat in Rajshahi to Godagari upazila with the intent of hoarding.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Department of Agriculture and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, acting on NSI information, conducted a joint drive in the Chandipur area of the city this afternoon and seized the fertiliser. Bipul Biswas, Assistant Director of the district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, imposed a fine of Tk 40,000 on businessman Rezaul Karim for his involvement in the smuggling operation.
Efforts have been made to ensure that the seized fertiliser reaches the farmers at a fair price. Arrangements are in place to sell the fertiliser through authorised dealers, aiming to prevent further illegal activities and support local agriculture.
