3 including female councillor sued for extorting hawkers

Three people, including a female councillor of Chittagong City Corporation, were sued in a case filed over extorting hawkers.

 

The accused have been identified as Rumki Sengupta, councillor of the reserved women’s ward, and her two associates Apu Dhar Raj, 28, and Md. Ismail, 40.

 

Lokman Hakim, general secretary of Andarkillah Hawker Association, filed the case at Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate court on Monday.

 

Magistrate Jewel Deb accepted the case and asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate it.

 

The court also asked the PBI to submit the investigation report by October 30, said Biswa Sheel, the lawyer of the plaintiff.
