DHAKA: A three-day winter chess festival has commenced at Dhaka University, hosted at the Teachers-Students Center (TSC) games room. The event was inaugurated by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, who attended as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Dhaka University Chess Club (DUCC) is organizing the festival as part of its 38th founding anniversary celebrations. The opening ceremony was presided over by DUCC President Tanvir Alam, while Imran Sharif Shuvo, the general secretary, conducted the event proceedings.
The festival features two competitions. The ‘Dhaka University Chess Championship’ is scheduled for the first two days and is exclusive to DU students. Following this, the Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman Memorial Open Rapid Chess Tournament, open to all participants, will take place on January 3.
