Dinajpur: A three-day National Fruit Fair commenced in Dinajpur, promoting the theme “Eat more local fruits, plant more fruit trees.” Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at Gor-a-Shahid Boro Maidan, emphasizing the importance of consuming formalin-free local fruits.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair is organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) to encourage the public to incorporate fresh local fruits into their diets. Following the inauguration, officials and guests, including the Deputy Commissioner, toured various stalls to explore the offerings.
Md. Afzal Hossain, Deputy Director of DAE, presided over the event, which featured notable attendees such as Md. Riaz Uddin, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department, and Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic). Other prominent figures included Abureza Md. Asaduzzaman, Project Director of the Sustainable Agriculture Development Project in Dinajpur Region, and district political leaders Advocate Md. Mofazzal Hossain Dulal and Principal Md. Anisur Rahman.
The event began with a welcome speech by Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Asaduzzaman. During the program, Maskura Khatun, IT Officer of the Horticulture Center, showcased an improved variety fruit cultivation project developed by the Agriculture Department through a PowerPoint presentation. The event was hosted by Md. Khurshid Hasan and Lutfun Nahar, Assistant Directors of the Department of Agricultural Extension.
