Cox’s bazar: An international conference aimed at addressing the ongoing Rohingya crisis is scheduled to take place at Hotel Baywatch in the Inani area under Ukhia upazila on August 25. Chief Adviser to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is expected to attend as the chief guest.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conference is organized to coincide with the eighth anniversary of the Rohingya influx. Cox’s Bazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Imran Hossain Sajeeb, confirmed that the event aims to raise funds for displaced Rohingyas and bolster international efforts to facilitate their return to Rakhine State, Myanmar. In attendance will be foreign ministers from several countries, international envoys on Rohingya issues, Bangladesh missions abroad, and representatives from various UN agencies.

The conference, titled ‘Partner Dialogue: Messages Received for Discussion at the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation’, will last three days and include discussions, cultural programs, and an exhibition of refugee camps. Five working sessions are planned for August 24 and 25, focusing on humanitarian assistance and initiating repatriation efforts. Delegates will also have the opportunity to visit the Rohingya camps on August 26.

Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser and High Representative on Rohingya Affairs, Khalilur Rahman, mentioned that this conference in Cox’s Bazar is part of preparations for a larger UN conference. A high-level conference sponsored by 106 countries is scheduled for September 30 in New York, timed with the UN General Assembly. Additionally, another international conference on this issue will take place in Doha, Qatar, on December 6.
