Gaibandha: At the end of the nomination scrutiny process for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, a total of 16 candidates’ nomination papers were rejected across five parliamentary constituencies in Gaibandha. The scrutiny activity was conducted in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC), who is also the returning officer of the election, on Friday and Saturday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Returning Officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman disclosed that a total of 45 candidates submitted their nomination papers in five constituencies of the district on time. Following the scrutiny, 16 nomination papers were declared invalid, leaving 29 candidates with valid nominations.
Office sources revealed that, out of the 16 invalid nominations, five were from Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj), three from Gaibandha-2 (Gaibandha Sadar), three from Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur), one from Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), and four from Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Phulchhari).
Returning Officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman further explained that the rejections were primarily due to errors in the nomination papers and inconsistencies in the necessary supporting documents. However, he noted that the candidates whose papers were invalidated have the opportunity to appeal the decision within the designated timeframe.
