Sylhet: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday seized 237 Indian cows and 42 buffaloes worth about Tk 3 crore in two separate operations in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BGB Sylhet Battalion Headquarters and Bishnakandi BOP conducted a special operation at Itachoki on the border of Rustampur Union of Gowainghat Upazila, where they seized 237 Indian cows that were being smuggled into Bangladesh. A BGB press release confirmed the operation.
In a separate mission, the patrol team of Lafarge BOP apprehended 42 Indian buffaloes in the Dinertuk area of Doarabazar Upazila in Sunamganj. The BGB described this as the largest cattle seizure in the history of the Sylhet Battalion, with the total estimated value of the seized livestock being approximately Tk 3 crore.
Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, Commander of the Sylhet Battalion, stated, “The BGB is always alert and active in protecting the security of the border, preventing illegal smuggling, and tackling all criminal activities, including drug trafficking.” He emphasized that due to enhanced BGB intelligence activities and special operations, smuggling activities in the border area have significantly decreased in recent times. “Such operations will continue in the future,” he added.
