Dhaka: Leaders of Bangladesh Sangbadpathro Karmachari Federation (BSKF) and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers (BFUNPW) have demanded the immediate formation of the 10th wage board for journalists, newspaper employees, and workers. The leaders of the two organizations made the call today during a joint meeting of the BSKF and BFUNPW at the BSS employee’s union office in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers President Md Alamgir Hossain Khan and was addressed by BSKF President valiant Freedom Fighter Md Matiur Rahman Talukder as the chief speaker. Federation Secretary General Md Khairul Islam conducted the meeting.
Speakers at the meeting stated that the wage board system plays a crucial role in ensuring the rights of journalists and employees and in the sustainable development of the newspaper industry. They described the wage board as a legal foundation for the media sector that aids in making journalism more professional and stable.
They emphasized the need to revise the pay structure for media employees in line with current market realities and rising living costs, stressing that the formation of the 10th Wage Board and the implementation of the 9th have now become urgent necessities. The leaders also urged the government to consult stakeholders in the newspaper industry to form a new wage board and adopt pragmatic policies to ensure the sustainable development of the media sector.
Mostak Ahmed, Md Tanvir Hossain, Mohammad Ali Khan (Apu), Tojammel Haque, Maksudul Ahsan, Rafiqul Islam, Md Jahangir Hossain, Md Ataur Rahman, and Belayet Hossain, among others, were present at the event.
