Dhaka: A court here today ordered the freezing of 22 bank accounts belonging to Naem Nizam, the former editor of the daily Bangladesh Pratidin, and his wife, Farida Yasmin, a former president of the National Press Club and former reserved-seat lawmaker. This action also extends to their related interests. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, acting on a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC’s petition disclosed that a team had been formed to investigate allegations of illegal wealth accumulation and money laundering abroad involving Naem Nizam, Farida Yasmin, and former Kaler Kantho editor Imdadul Haq Milon. The inquiry revealed, through confidential sources, that Naeem Nizam, Farida Yasmin, and their children were attempting to transfer or dispose of movable assets owned by them or their affiliated entities.

The petition emphasized that to ensure a thorough investigation, it was imperative to immediately freeze the bank accounts held in their names and those associated with their owned or related organizations.
