Karnali’s natural resources can be used for creating job opportunities-Minister Aryal

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal highlighted the need to change the narrative of tagging Karnali as a poor province ignoring its richness in natural resources. At a programme organized at the Karnali Province headquarters, Surkhet, today, he said through there are higher potentials to generate higher income by selling stones of Karnali its use has been grossly ignored over the time. "Let us consider Karnali positively rather than interpreting it from negative point of view. There is hidden potential to generate employment opportunities for thousands of people by selling its stone", Minister Aryal added. Now there is a mass psychology of despair that nothing positive will happen in the country, he said, adding, " I have come up with some plans to transform the despair into hope". Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security is set to organize an employment fair in Surkhet on coming June 7-8. Two killed in Satkhira road accident

Two labourers were killed and seven others injured in a road accident on Khulna-Paikgacha road in Gonali area under Tala upazila of the district this morning. The deceased were identified as Saidul Gazi, 44, and Monirul Islam, 25. Both were the residents of Koyra upazila in Khulna district. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Thana Md Mominul Islam said the accident occurred when a paddy-laden truck overturned in the area around 6:30 am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving Saidul and Monirul dead on the spot and injuring others. Political parties agree to form parliamentary probe committee

Kathmandu: The ruling parties and main opposition Nepali Congress have agreed to form a parliamentary committee to end the ongoing political deadlock. The Nepali Congress (NC) was demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee for long to probe the alleged misappropriations in the cooperatives. A meeting of the ruling parties and opposition NC held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday decided to constitute the committee, NC's chief whip Ramesh Lekhak said. According to Lekhak, the ToR of the committee will be finalized on Sunday morning. He said that all the political parties have shared a common view on forming the parliamentary committee. Lekhak termed the decision as an achievement and a positive move. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri would coordinate the job of drafting the ToR of the committee and the leaders of all political parties will give a final touch. Lekhak viewed that the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting summoned for Sunday would be held after the decision to form the parliamentary committee. A series of discussions and meetings among the leaders were held on Saturday for the formation of the committee. After holding discussions with the Speaker, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' met with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, general secretary Gagan Thapa and chief whip Lekhak and other leaders. About barring the journalists from entering Bangladesh Bank, Quader questioned in which country, one can enter the central bank freely. 'Can anyone enter Indian Federal Bank freely? You (journalists) have to know the information. Everything has been given on website. So, why would you enter the bank?' he said. About the falling of forex reserve, he questioned how much dollar BNP had kept when their tenure ended. It was only three billion plus reserve. 'Now the foreign reserve is 19-20 billion. Is it lesser? Now our export earning is rising and remittance inflow is also i ncreasing. If these increase, reserve will also increase,' he said. Parliament’s deadlock not a political crisis: NC general secretary Sharma

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Biswo Prakash Sharma said the parliament's deadlock should not be interpreted as a political crisis. At a launching of 'Aaranko Aago' - a collection of short fictions authored by Kashyap Prasad Poude here today, he argued that there was no political crisis in the country while calling for broader unity towards attaining economic and social transformation. The economic crisis prevailing in the country is a real challenge now, he said, stressing the need for all political parties to come together to avert the challenge. "There is no political crisis in the country. A political crisis occurs when there is a violent conflict going on. After facing such crisis, we came on a path", Sharma said, adding, "Economic and social transformation is the common thing to think about now, irrespective of the party and ideology". Lightning strike kills mother, son among 3 in Narsingdi

Three people, including a mother and her son, were killed and two others injured by lightning strikes at Alokbali paddy field, a remote area in? Sadar upazila of the district today. The deceased were identified Sharifa Begum, 48, wife of Kamal Mia of Madhyapara village of Alokbali Union and her son Emon,12, and Qayum Mia, 25, son of Hatem Mia of Baghaikandi village of Raipura Upazila of the district. According to the relatives of the victims, several people including Kamal Mia, his wife Sharifa and son Emon and Qayum were cutting paddy in the area around 11:30 this morning. Suddenly, it started to rain with thunderbolts, leaving five people injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station Tanveer Ahmed said. Two UPDF members shot dead in Rangamati

Two members of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were shot dead in a presumed attack by rivals at Langadu upazila of the hilly district today, police said. The law enforces identified the slain persons as Bidya Dhan Chakma alias Tilok, 45, and Dhanyamoni Chakma, 35. They were shot to death in an attack supposed to be carried out by their rivals in Bhaledi Ghat area of the upazila at 9am, said Officer-in-Charge of Langadu Thana Md Harunur Rashid. The security has been beefed up in the area, he said. UPDF Rangamati District Unit Organiser Shachal Chakma, however, blamed the Shantu Larma-led Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) for the attack. Two youths drown

Two youths drowned while swimming in a stream at Battar Suleraha in Bandipur Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun. The District Police Office, Tanahun, said that 20-year-old youths Binod Gurung and Hira Gurung of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 died in the incident. Two minors drown in Gomostapur

Two minor children drowned in a pond at Gomastapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district yesterday noon. The deceased were Md. Fahim Ali, 4, son of Md. Daud Ali of Mominpara village and Farhana, 3, daughter of Mofizul of the aforesaid village under Chowdala union of Gomastapur upazila. The victims were cousins, police and local sources confirmed. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gomostapur Police Station Chowdhury Zobayer Ahammad said the children suddenly fell into a pond near their houses while they were playing beside it. 372 drug peddlers arrested in 10 months

The District Police Office, Jhapa has arrested 372 drug peddlers in the past ten months. This also includes drug abusers, who were arrested from various parts of the district. Of those arrested, 22 are foreign nationals including four women. During the period, the police filed 240 cases related to drugs in the district court, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Krishna Bahadur Chand. Meanwhile, the police have been organising awareness raising programmes to combat illegal drugs. However, the open border with India touching West Bengal and Bihar states has made it challenging for the police to ensure effective control. Considering the increasing number of drug users in the district, the District Police Office, Jhapa has recently implemented the 'mothers for control of drug abuse', said Superintendent of Police, Milan KC. This programme has been implemented in all the 15 municipalities in the district. The concerned local levels have collaborated in this door-to-door programme, adds SP KC.
