Month long flower festival began in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, A month-long flower festival has been inaugurated for the second time at DC Park Faujdarhat under Sitakunda upazila of the district here today. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain inaugurated the festival as chief guest. Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while Senior Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and Divisional Commissioner Chattogram Md. Tofail Islam were present as special guests. The flower festival was formally inaugurated by cutting ribbon and blowing balloons. This fair will continue till February 24. The park, which has been established over 194 acres of Khas land. There are 127 different types of flowers. Visitors are fascinated by this kingdom of flowers. Mentionable, the Chattogram District Administration recovered 194 acres of khas land along the Marine Drive Road in Faujdarhat, which had been occupied by local drug addicts and criminals for more than a decade. Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia to ink agreement on judiciary

DHAKA, Bangladesh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) are going to sign an agreement on mutual cooperation between the judiciaries of the two countries and the content of the accord has already been sent to the gulf nation. Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh Essa Bin Youssef Al Duhailan today called on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Minister Anisul Huq at his office here to discuss progress in this regard, an official release said today. "We had a very fruitful meeting. We both agreed on improving existing relationships between the two countries. The Saudi envoy told us that the Muslim world thinks Sheikh Hasina as their sister and they are keen to further strengthen this relation," Law Minister Anisul Huq told newsmen after the meeting. Anisul, an eminent lawyer himself, today again talked about the questions raised by many on the total number lawmakers in the country at present. When asked whether there is any ambiguity in the law regarding the matter, the law minister said, "The country is running as per what is in the constitution now and it was not included in the constitution today. It was added in the 14th Amendment. The matter that is being discussed now is probably not that important. Malawi citizen held in capital with 8.3kg cocaine

DHAKA, Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested an East African country-Malawi's female citizen and seized 8.3 kilograms of cocaine from her at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Wednesday evening. A joint team of the DNC and Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested Namthandazo Tauera Soko, 35, a nurse, upon her arrival at the airport on a Qatar Airways flight. DNC's director (operations) Tanvir Mamtaz told a press conference at the department's Dhaka city north office at Tejgaon here this afternoon. He said worth of seized cocaine is Taka 100 crore as it is the largest consignment of cocaine seized in the country's history. Quader returns home after health check-up in Singapore

DHAKA, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today returned home from Singapore after his routine health check-up at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He reached Dhaka by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight this evening, a ministry press release said. PM greets all concerned on DMP founding day

DHAKA, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted all members of Bangladesh Police, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on the occasion of the 49th founding day of DMP to be celebrated tomorrow. "On the occasion of the 49th foundation day of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, I extend my sincere greetings to all the members of the Bangladesh Police, including the members of this unit," she said, in a message. The Prime Minister said the Awami League-led government has taken effective steps to solve the complications of promotion of police officers by reforming the structure of almost all police units and creating new posts. The police force is being comprehensively strengthened to achieve international standard capabilities in combating militancy and terrorism, she said. As a result, the role of Bangladesh Police in dealing with the international, regional and local challenges of militancy and terrorism has been widely appreciated, the premier added. Sheikh Hasina further said that the glorious success o f the police in the United Nations peacekeeping missions has given Bangladesh a unique status in the global arena. In addition to professional responsibility, the role of the police in humanitarian activities including combating the corona pandemic is highly commendable, she said. She hoped that every police member of DMP will work for the welfare of the people and the country by keeping ahead the motto "Seba O Sodachar, DMP er Ongikar'. Bangladesh reports zero Covid-19 death, 40 positive cases

DHAKA, Bangladesh today recorded zero Covid-19 death while it reported 40 coronavirus positive cases. "Bangladesh reported 9.26 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 432 samples were tested during the last 24 hours," a daily statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said here. During the period, the combined figure of coronavirus infection in Dhaka district and the capital is 39 while zero Covid-19 death was reported here. The official tally showed that the virus killed a total of 29,481 people and infected 20,46,823 so far. The recovery count rose to 20,46,901 as four other patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the last 24 hours, the statement added. Alesha Mart chairman, wife jailed in cheque dishonour case

DHAKA, A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced e-commerce company Alesha Mart's chairman Manjur Alam Sikdar and his wife Sadiya Chowdhury to six months jail in a cheque dishonour case. The court of Dhaka 2nd Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Tasruzzaman pronounced the judgment, also fining the couple Taka 3.46 lakh. The court issued arrest warrant against the two convicts as they are yet to be arrested. According to the case documents, victim Nuruzzaman Ripon filed the case on May 19, 2022, as he paid Taka 2.50 lakh to Alesha Mart on June 8, 2021, to buy a motorcycle. But after passing of 45 days, he didn't get his bike from the e-commerce company, who instead gave him a cheque of Taka 3.46 lakh on December 28, 2021.
